The Great Deception Is Already Beginning—Here’s What the Bible Says

Many people have confirmed in conversation what I have been sensing in my spirit for some time now;

time seems to be accelerating.

Have you sensed it too? Have you sensed in your spirit this urgency to spread the Gospel because Jesus’ return is rapidly approaching?

We are seeing the Bible played out before our very eyes and the stage is being set at this very moment for the events of end time prophecy.

Time is running out.

Jesus Warned Us About These Days: Are You Paying Attention?

In Matthew 24-25 you will find Jesus’ prophetic warning of the times we are living in right now. Overlooking the Mount of Olives, His disciples approach Him privately with a question that was burning in their hearts.

“Tell us, when will these things be?” They asked this in reference to Jesus’ earlier statement in Matthew 24:2 about the destruction of the temple.

Jesus response to this question is recorded in the following verses of Matthew 24:4-Matthew 25 in what most theologians call the Eschatological Discourse. Eschatology is the aspect of biblical doctrine dealing with “last things” taken from the Greek, eschatos meaning “final”.

In these passages Jesus teaches us about:

  • the destruction of the Temple
  • signs of the end times
  • His second coming
  • judgment
  • spiritual readiness
  • and the need for faithful endurance

You can also find His teaching in the parallel verses found in Mark 13 and Luke 21.

I don’t claim to be an expert in eschatology, and this post is not meant to be a deep theological study of end-times prophecy. Instead, I want to focus on something Scripture repeatedly warns us about: deception—and how believers can remain grounded and protected in truth.

In Matthew 24, Jesus’ briefing of the end times pulsate with an urgent warning-do not be deceived.

“Take heed that no one deceives you.” Matthew 24:4

One of the clearest themes in Jesus’ Olivet Discourse is His repeated warning against deception and spiritual unpreparedness. Before describing wars, tribulation, or signs in the heavens, Jesus first said: ‘Watch out that no one deceives you.’

What we are seeing increasingly prevail today is Satan’s primary weapon: deception.

Religious deception, social and political unrest, natural disasters, broken relationships, and intense persecution are all accelerating at an alarming rate. With the rapid explosion of A.I. , false teachers abounding, empty philosophical ideas at every corner, and a growing woke-ism in the church, this deception can easily take root in our minds and heart if we are not careful.

We as believers must stay alert and vigilant in knowing and proclaiming the truth.

Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not be partakers with them. For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. Ephesians 5:6-10

How are we in danger of being deceived? The Bible says by letting our thought life come into alignment with words that are empty.

Words that lead to death.

Agreeing with ideas that on the surface may sound good and almost biblical, but are not actually truth.

5 Biblical Daily Actions to Protect Our Hearts Against End-Time Deception

  1. Move beyond reading the Word of God into studying and meditating on the Word of God; inviting the Holy Spirit to illuminate Scripture and reveal deceptive patterns in your thought life that you may be entertaining. When I moved my daily Bible time from a quick reading to studying/meditating on scripture, my depth in Jesus grew exponentially and my faith soared to greater heights. With an open heart, invite the Holy Spirit to guide you in His truth. One caveat I need to mention; I understand that sometimes there are days when everything seems to hit the fan and our schedules are loaded. Those are the days when we may have to read only a couple of verses. The Holy Spirit can cultivate five minutes of scripture reading on crazy days that will nourish you in ways that only He can.

2. Test every teaching and idea against clear revelation of God’s Word, measuring them by scriptural standards. Podcasts, sermons, books, teachings are available in abundance today. We must be careful to test everything we hear and read.

“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world. You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.  They are of the world. Therefore they speak as of the world, and the world hears them. We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.” 1 John 4:1-6

3. Abide in Christ by practicing frequent meditation on the Gospel and the character of God, allowing truth to shape your thought life and conduct. Abiding in Christ is when your life is so intertwined within Him that every thought, action, and word you speak brings Him glory.

“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.” John 15:4-11

4. Stay connected to a faithful, Bible-centered community of believers where you can encourage one another, seek godly wisdom, share discernment, and lovingly keep each other anchored in truth. Getting plugged into a strong community of fellow believers is vital for your growth in Christ and will help keep you guarded against deception.

“And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews 10: 24-25

5. Endure faithfully until the end, recognizing that deception often comes not through obvious evil, but through comfort, compromise, and things that slowly pull us away from the truth. There is a reason scripture vehemently warns us to stay alert during this time. A sleeping christian is in grave danger of end times deception. Just look at the parable of the wise and foolish virgins in Matthew 25:1-13. To read my blog post about this parable, click here

Deception will not announce itself, it will be very convincing and shrouded in false light.

1 Peter 5:8: “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”
Mark 13:33: “Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come.”
Ephesians 6:18: “With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”

We are to resist, flee from, and stand firm against deception. Jesus is coming soon. Stay alert.
